2006 Cross Country Cycling Classic
The Belize Bank continues it’s commitment to providing sponsorship in the field of education, sports, and entertainment. Our San Ignacio branch is proud of its support for the sport of cycling in Belize and particularly delighted to have contributed to the sponsorship of the Western Spirit Cycling Team and Shane Vasquez, the 2006 Cross Country Champion.

The Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic is the biggest annual cycling event held in Belize. This exciting race has evolved tremendously since its inception in 1928 to now being an international event, attracting amateur cyclists from all over the world, including Mexico, Guatemala, Jamaica, and the United States. The race starts at 6 AM on Holy Saturday in Belize City and shoots out west to San Ignacio, then returns back to Belize City for the grand finale at the Marion Jones Sports Complex.
Covering a distance of approximately 144 miles, this year’s race had over 120 riders and Shane Vasquez became the first Belizean since 2001 to win the annual Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic.
