On Sunday, June 1 Tropical Storm Arthur became the first named storm of the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season, affecting portions of all six districts of Belize. The most affected areas were the low-lying coastal villages of Gales Point and Mullins River, Sarawee, Hope Creek, Sittee River, and Middlesex in Stann Creek.
In our ongoing efforts to give back to the communities in which we serve, the Belize Bank Limited today made a contribution to the flood victims in Southern Belize through the “HAND wash HAND” organization.
Containers consisting of foam mattresses, bedding and towels, lanterns, kerosene, detergents and cleaning products, as well as used clothing were prepared, and will be distributed to victims in the affected areas. The Belize Bank's contribution will go towards the preparation of six (6) of these containers.
Members of the organization will travel to Southern Belize later this week to distribute the containers to the flood victims. HAND wash HAND is a charitable organization which provides assistance to underprivileged families, and individuals who have been impacted by natural disasters such as Tropical Storm Arthur. The organization encourages those who have received their assistance to continue to the act of giving by also giving back to the communities in which they live.
