Job Purpose:

The Currency Custodian is responsible for the custody of the bulk cash and coins, handling of large deposits, company payrolls and preparing of local and foreign cash parcels for remittance.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attain targets set for new business referrals. (Loans, Deposits, H.O.M.E Residential Mortgages, Credit Cards, etc.)
  • Handles clerical duties associated with front office duties (e.g. preparation of bank statement)
  • Responsible for the custody of the branch’s cash supply. This involves performing the following duties in an accurate and timely manner:
    – Preparing /receiving cash parcels
    – Supplying/receiving cash to/ from tellers
    – Receiving cash from tellers who are sick, going on vacation, reporting for airport rotation
    – Processing Night & Day Deposits on a daily basis and prepare Night & Day Record Sheet
  • Maintain proper custody/security of cash/vouchers, storing excess cash securely, in accordance with policy
    and procedure
  • Ensure all cash dispensation is handled in an accurate manner so as to balance cash on a daily basis
  • Operate within limits of authority (cash holdings, cash dispensing authorities, etc.)
  • Perform the necessary due diligence to mitigate losses due to omissions (check debits/credits, signatures, dates, words and figures, account numbers, inputting data accurately, etc.)
  • Actively follow the procedures outlined in the Superior Service Management Policy for serving clients at all service delivery channels and for handling compliments, suggestions, queries and concerns
  • Work with Management, other branch staff and peers for the betterment of Belize Bank demonstrating flexibility
  • Actively participate in meetings and other branch/bank activities. You will be expected to come prepared for team meetings and listen and speak up in discussions

 

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • An Associate Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • One (1) year of progressive work experience in banking; counting/receiving/ disbursing money/executing financial transactions and/or prior Bank Cash Custodian/Customer Service Representative experience
  • Knowledge of the banking industry in Belize and general regulatory procedures mandated by the Central Bank of Belize

 

Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements:

  • Bilingual with the ability to speak and write English and Spanish at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Computer literate at an intermediate to advanced level with proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Very good organizational skills with the ability to handle high volumes of work
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with sound judgment and tact in customer interaction
  • Good analytical and Problem solving skills
  • Customer centric through proven customer loyalty initiatives/activities
  • Ability to promote and sell the Bank’s products and services with ability to network extensively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to highest priority in all functions at the Bank
  • Ability to maintain professional maturity/composure under stressful situations
