Mr. Jose Cardona is a seasoned banking professional with over 40 years of experience at The Belize Bank Limited. Now retired, he brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and strategic insight to the role of Independent Non-executive Director. Throughout his distinguished career, he developed deep expertise in banking operations and played a pivotal role in the institution’s strategic and technological evolution.
As Chief Information Officer, Mr. Cardona was responsible for shaping and executing the bank’s information technology strategy, with a particular focus on innovation in digital banking and the management of the payment card business. He also served as Chief Operations Officer, leading the modernization of the bank’s operational framework, and contributing to its long-term transformation and growth.
Mr. Cardona has played an active role in the development of Belize’s financial infrastructure. He worked closely with the Central Bank of Belize on initiatives of national importance, including serving on the Working Group for National Payment Systems and contributing to the formulation of the National Payment Systems Reform Strategy.
In addition to his executive leadership, Mr. Cardona has held several governance roles with other institutions including seven years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. John’s College.
