Job Purpose:

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the overall management of the Bank’s databases, including but not limited to their  performance, integrity and security.  The DBA is also responsible for the planning, analysis, design, development and testing of new databases and database modifications; and for troubleshooting and fixing database problems.  The DBA advises management on database policies and develop database procedures as necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish the data needs of users and monitor user access and security
  • Monitor database performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users
  • Review information system requests and describe database needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish system
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations
  • Develop and update data model describing data elements and how they are used
  • Participate in the requirements analysis, identification and selection of off-the-shelf database applications
  • Further refine the physical database design to meet system storage requirements
  • Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
  • Document database policies, standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
  • Develop, manage and test database and data files back-up and recovery plans
  • Ensure that database storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
  • Conduct database vulnerability tests and implement appropriate remediation strategies
  • Work closely with Software Architects, Business Analysts, and Developers to implement database systems
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Commission and install new applications and customize existing applications
  • Run regular database tune-up activities to ensure the Bank’s database systems are running optimally

 

Educational & Work Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Certification in administration of IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, FoxPro, Oracle and/or other database management systems (DBMS) preferred.
  • At least three years (3) experience as a Database Administrator or Developer with focus on database driven applications.

  • Ability to create an efficient physical database design from a logical data model and application specifications. If the data resource management discipline has not been created, the DBA also must be responsible for data modeling, normalization, and conceptual and logical design.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform database schema creation and management
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to highest priority in all functions at the Bank
  • Ability to maintain professional maturity/composure under stressful situations
  • Bilingual with the ability to speak and write English and Spanish at an intermediate level (asset)
